Expect the Unexpected
I know, Lord, that our lives are not our own. We are not able to plan our own course.
Jeremiah 10:23
We had waited months for the phone call that our newest addition had arrived. We were in contact with the birth mother and she kept us posted on the health of the baby and informed us that she was having another boy. We were elated, already having two boys in the house, we believed a third would just blend right in.
The call came — “She’s here!”
Excuse me.
“She’s here.” Birth mom had a healthy baby girl and she was ready to come home to us. A baby girl. I was not prepared for a girl and went into frantic preparations. This was not my plan!
But it was His.
There are several places in The Bible, and specifically Jeremiah, where we are reminded that our plans are not God’s plans. In chapter 10, verse 23 it is detailed that our lives are not our own; we are not able to plan our own course.
Yet, how often do we try?
Our selfish nature, emphasized by Satan’s encouragement, finds us attempting to plan our own course, but God reminds us time and again that he is laying the stone of our path. Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord” is yet another reminder that our course is not our own and, more often than not, we should expect the unexpected.
Open your path to the one who created it. Joyfully invite Him on the journey, walking with faith even when things don’t go how you expected.
